MonkeyLearn accepts text data from CSV and Excel files, though sometimes these files have common problems.

Many CSV files may run into problems with encoding if they are not recognized as the common format UTF-8. In particular, CSV files that are exported from Excel are susceptible.

The quick fix might be to try to open your data file from another program (like LibreOffice or Google Spreadsheets) and export the file as a CSV again. 

If you still are having trouble, chat with us on the live chat and we may ask for the text data to see if we can convert it to the proper encoding ourselves.

What is going on?
Everyone uses CSV files but they don't always handle some of the details the same. That creates some problems when sharing and opening files. In trying to solve this problem, one of the most common formats in use today is an encoding called UTF-8 (more on that here), and it's this encoding that MonkeyLearn also accepts.

Please note that you may not be able to upload data to MonkeyLearn when your file is over 100 MB, there are more than 200 categories, or the number of texts in your file is larger than your current query limit. 

If you are still having issues, try limiting the amount of texts to less than 10,000 per data file. For best results in MonkeyLearn and across our integration options, we usually recommend limiting data files accordingly.
